Why you should replace your air filter this winter

December 13, 2016

We encourage routine maintenance on your HVAC system all the time, but this doesn’t only mean ongoing tune-ups – it also refers to looking at your air filters. It’s a quick way to help keep your system running smoothly and increase your indoor air quality, and you can easily do it on your own! This is the best time to check your filter, as the cold season comes to an end and summer is approaching. There are several benefits to switching out your air filter for a replacement, such as:

Lengthening the life and efficiency of your system
A definite way to instigate a system interruption is a dirty air filter. Excess dirt that is built up on your filter can cause your whole system to operate harder than it should to keep your home cool. Not only will it hinder the performance of your system, but it can escalate your utility bills and end with an overheated system.

Enhancing indoor air quality
The purpose of an air filter is that it grabs contaminants through your air system before it enters your house. After the filter has been in for a while, the less capable it is in grabbing things like dust and mold that can hurt the health and comfort of your house, particularly if someone in your home suffers from allergies or asthma. With warmer temps coming up, pollen and mold are especially prone to be hanging around and you would prefer they aren’t traveling in your home. A quality, clean air filter will help your household breathe easy and remain healthy during allergy season.

Inspect your system or ask your HVAC technician for guidance on how often you should be changing your filter. For most filters through Airmen HVAC Service, we recommend an annual change with the highest MERV filter that is offered. Not sure if it’s the ideal time to replace your air filter?
